Men's Golf Makes Cut at NCAA Championships; Folker Cards One-Under in Second Round

(NICHOLASVILLE, Ky.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday morning and carded a four-over par 292 as team on the par-72, 6,897-yard Keene Run Course at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The Cardinal and Gray have a 36-hole score of 599 (307-299) which places them tied for eighth in a field of 42 teams and advances them to rounds three and four of the championship event. Following play on Wednesday, the field was cut to the top 18 teams and the top six individuals not on one of those teams.

Illinois Wesleyan University continues to lead the championship field after two rounds of play with a two-over par 578 (287-291).

Sophomore Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) led the Tartans on Wednesday with a one-under par 71 after carding a three-under in his final nine holes of play. Folker has a 36-hole score of 147 (76-71) and is tied for 14th individually.

Sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and Freshman William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) each shot rounds of even par. Li currently is tied for 12th with a 146 (74-72) while Knauth has a 36-score of 153 (81-72).

Freshman Henry Scavone (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) has a 153 and is tied with Knauth after two rounds of play. The freshman posted a round of 77 after closing with an 18-foot birdie putt on Wednesday. Senior Austin Lin (Los Gatos, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) will enter play Thursday with a score of 168 of carding back-to-back rounds of 84.

Play resumes Thursday, as the final two rounds will be played on the par-72, 7,190-yard Champion Trace Course. Lin will tee off first for the Tartans at 7:30 a.m.
