Men's Golf Continues Play at NCAA Championships

(NICHOLASVILLE, Ky.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team played the par-72, 7,190-yard Champion Trace Course in the third round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships on Thursday at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The Tartans fired a team score of 313 and have a 54-hole score of 912 (307-292-313) and are in 11th heading into the final round on Friday morning.

The Cardinal and Gray are currently in 11th place while Illinois Wesleyan University and Huntingdon College are tied atop the leader board with an 880 followed by Guilford College with an 882. The individual leader is Sam Goldenring of Williams College with a two-under par 213 through 54 holes.

Sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) led the Tartans on Thursday with a three-over par 75 and now has a score of five-over par 221 (74-72-75) over three rounds and is in 12th place individually in a field of 216 golfers.

Freshman Henry Scavone (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) recorded his second straight round of 77 and has a 54-hole score of 230 (76-77-77) and is tied with sophomore teammate Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) for 44th. Folker has posted rounds of 76, 71 and 83.

Freshman William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) turned in a round of 78 on Thursday and sits one-stroke back of Scavone and Folker with a 231 (81-72-78). Senior Austin Lin (Los Gatos, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) has carded three straight rounds of 84 and has a 252.

The Tartans will compete in the final round on Friday, with Lin set to tee off at 7:30 a.m.
