Jason Li Breaks School Record, fires 66 in Round Two of Golfweek DIII Fall Invite
(MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team continued play at the second day of the 2019 Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational on Tuesday on the par 71, 6,725-yard Raven Golf Club at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida. Junior Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) broke the school record for the lowest individual round in the program's history, making six birdies on the back nine en route to a five-under par 66 to lead the Tartans. After 36 holes of play, the Tartans are currently sitting in a share for seventh out of 18 teams after carding a second consecutive 287 this morning for a total of six-over par 574 (287-287).
Li will enter the final round tomorrow in a share for second individually at seven-under par 135 (69-66), three strokes behind the individual leader Rob Wuethrich of Illinois Wesleyan, who backed up his 64 from yesterday with a three-under par 68 for a total of 132 (64-68).
Junior Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) carded a five-over par 76 for a total of 146 (70-76) and freshman Brian Li (Beijing, China/Blair Academy) continues to play steady backing up his 75 from Sunday with a one-over par 72, breaking his season-low, for a total of 147 (75-72).
Sophomore William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) rebounded from a rough start Sunday morning, firing a two-over par 73 today to enter the final round tomorrow with a total of 152 (79-73). And sophomore Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) finished play with a 79 to enter the final day at 152 (73-79) along with Knauth.
With one more day remaining, the current 36-hole leader is Illinois Wesleyan University, firing a nine-under par 275 today for a two-day total of 559 (284-275). Close behind the leading team are last year's team champion and runner-up, Emory University (280-283) and Huntingdon College (283-280), both entering the final day four strokes behind at a total of five-under par 563.
The final round is set for Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. CT.
