Four Tartans Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

(NORMAN, Okla.) – Four members of the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team have been named a Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Juniors Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) along with sophomore William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) were all recognized for their play on the course and in the classroom.

It was a record setting year for the award as 1,018 student-athletes earned the title of All-America Scholar, the most since the awards inception in 1982. To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically. 2020 marks the first year in which sophomores are eligible for the award.

In addition, they must have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40% of the team's competitive rounds. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

The four helped lead the Tartans to the highest final ranking in program history of fourth nationally when the final rankings were released at the beginning of April. The Tartans ended the shortened season with a top-place finish at the 18-team, 54-hole Savannah Invitational, which was played on the par 72, 6,845-yard The Club at Savannah Harbor Golf Course.

Li finished the season with a team-best average of 70.9 through 14 rounds. Folker competed in eight rounds and finished third on the team with an average of 73.4. Knauth was fourth on the team with an average of 73.8 competing in nine rounds with Milch playing in 13 rounds with the sixth best average of 74.7.
