Tartans Tied for Lead After Opening Round of Golfweek DIII Spring Invite

(HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened play in the first round of the 2021 Golfweek DIII Spring Invitational held at the par-72, 6,755-yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Tartans carded a team score of 299 on Friday and currently are tied with Methodist University in first-place in the 12-team event.

Senior Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) sits atop the individual leaderboard after carding a season-low round of three-under par 69. It was the fourth round out of six this season that Li has carded par or under. His six birdies on the afternoon was the most in the 60-golfer field.

Junior William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area), who led the field with 14 pars, ended play with a three-over par 75. Senior Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) sits a shot behind Knauth with a 76.

After carding even par on the back nine, senor Ben Huber (Hampton, Pa./Hampton) entered the clubhouse with a 79. Junior Henry Scavone (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) birdied 18 and finished with an 80.

The Tartans will be back on the links for the second round on Saturday with the first wave teeing off at 11:08 a.m.
