Men's Golf Places Second at Tartan Invitational

(LIGONIER, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the final round of The Tartan Invitational on Tuesday and carded a team score of 299. The Tartans placed second in a field of 13 teams with a 907 (301-307-299). The 54-hole, two-day event was hosted by Carnegie Mellon and played at the historic Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, which is a par 72, 7,151-yard course.

Emory University won the event with 905 (299-297-309). Cooper Hrabak of Methodist University claimed the individual medalist with a one-under par 215 (70-72-69).

Senior William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport Area) placed fourth individually with a 221 (74-76-71) after carding a one-under par 71 in the final round. Senior Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif. / Lowell) finished fifth with a 225 (74-76-75) while freshman Justin Chan (London, United Kingdom) carded a 54-hole score of 229 (72-80-77).

Senior Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) shot 235 (84-75-76) and sophomore Brian Xu (San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines) carded a 245 (81-83-81) over the three rounds.

Carnegie Mellon had one individual compete at the event, as senior Henry Scavone (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) shot a 246 (84-85-77) over the 54-hole event.

Carnegie Mellon will be back on the links October 17-19 when the play in the Golfweek Fall Preview. The three-day event is being held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort's Baytowne Golf Club in Destin, Florida.

Laurel Valley Golf Club opened in 1959 and was designed by Dick Wilson and renovated by Arnold Palmer. Since its opening, the club has hosted two notable tournaments: the 1965 PGA Championship and the 1975 Ryder Cup. Other tournaments played on the course include the 1989 U.S. Senior Open, the 2001 Marconi Pennsylvania Classic and the 2005 Senior PGA Championship.
