Webb Scores, Rice Makes The Save as Tartans Win 1-0 in 2OT

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - A penatly kick goal by senior Connor Webb (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce) in the 108th minute gave the Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team a 1-0 win over visiting Washington University on Saturday, October 11 in University Athletic Association (UAA) action. The win moves the Tartans' record to 7-3-1 on the year and 1-0-1 in the UAA while the Bears fall to 6-4-1 and 0-2-0.

The overtime periods held all the excitement as two penalty kicks were on the books. In the first extra time, the Bears earned a penalty shot after a hand ball in the box by a Tartan defender. Senior goalkeeper Jacob Rice (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) was up to the task as he smothered the shot by Washington's Jack West in the 95th minute.

Prior to the penatly attempt, the Tartans had three threatening corner kicks with Bear keeper Daniel Geanon punching clear.

In the 107th minute the Tartans pressed forward. Webb controlled a punt by Rice and dribbled down the left sideline. He got around a defender and put a left-footed cross to the far post where sophomore Tristan Lockwood (Victor, N.Y./Victor) dove forward to head the ball at the open net. A Bear defender got in the way and kocked it down with his arm resulting in the penalty shot. Webb then stepped up to the line and struck the shot past Geanon for the game winner and his eighth goal of the season.

The Tartans had five shots on frame in the first half with one in the second as the Bears tallied one in the first half, three in the second and two in the first overtime.

The Tartans will next travel to Brandeis University to face the fourth-ranked Judges at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17.
