Early Goal Doesn't Stand Up as Tartans Fall 3-1 at #9 Rochester

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team played at ninth-ranked University of Rochester on Sunday, October 28 for a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest. The Tartans scored first but fell 3-1 to the Yellowjackets and are now 10-4-2 overall and 2-4 in the UAA.

Junior Nicolas Poveda (Miami, Fla. / Coral Gables) put the Tartans on the board first with a header shot in the seventh minute. His shot came off a crossbar rebound after junior Cooper Tubiana's (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) shot sailed over the keeper but hit the crossbar.

The Tartans held the lead until the 37th minute when Zach Lawlor scored on a header off a corner kick from Bryce Ikeda. Five minutes later the Yellowjackets had another corner kick which was temporarily cleared by a Tartan defender but Aidan Miller was there for Rochester to head in the deflection for a 2-1 lead for the home team.

Miller added to the Yellowjacket advantage with a goal in the 62nd minute when he finished off a through pass from 10 yards out.

A minute before Rochester's final goal, junior Elliot Cohen's (Solana Beach, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy) shot was saved while junior Anthony Gulli (Warrenville, Ill. / St. Joseph) had a shot attempt stopped in the 68th minute.

The Tartans will return home for the final regular season game of the season when 11th-ranked Case Western Reserve University visits Pittsburgh on Saturday, November 3 at 1:00 p.m.
