Painter Scores Twice in Season Finale Win for Tartans at Case Western Reserve

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team closed its season with a 4-0 road victory against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, November 9. Senior Jack Painter (Bethlehem, Pa. / Moravian Academy) led the 7-8-1 Tartans with two goals and an assist inthe win.

Senior Nicolas Poveda (Miami, Fla. / Coral Gables) scored the first goal of the game for the Tartans in the 42nd minute when he headed in a corner kick by Painter. Painter's service to the near post was deflected backwards and past Case Western Reserve keeper Jackson Kallen.

Painter added to the score line in the 52nd minute with his first tally of the season. He was in the right place at the right time inside the 18-yard box when a defender tried to poke the ball away from senior Elliot Cohen (Solana Beach, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy) and the keeper. Painter beat another defender to the ball and slotted in the shot for the two-goal advantage. The play started with freshman Chris Roberts (West Chester, Pa. / Henderson) winning the ball along the left sideline. He passed it inside to junior Nick Isham (Lansing, Mich. / East Lansing) who gave it right back to Roberts just outside the 18-yard box on the left side of the field. Roberts crossed it in to Cohen who had the ball ricochet off his foot and his face before falling to the ground where the defender poked it away but in front of the goal Painter was charging.

Senior Cooper Tubiana (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) then added to the lead in the 73rd minute when he finished off a rebound off the foot of sophomore Jordi Long (Silver Spring, Md. / Montgomery Blair).

A minute later, Painter scored again, this time finishing a one-on-one with the keeper following a pass by sophomore Jason Edmunds (Libertyville, Ill. / Libertyville) through the back line who was playing near the halfway line.

Junior Alex Singh (Golden, Colo. / Lakewood) earned his fourth shutout of the season making seven saves.
