Kalis Has Solid Outing in Goal as Tartans Shutout Franciscan, 1-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted Franciscan University on Saturday afternoon and shutout the Barons, 1-0,  for their sixth victory of the season. Senior Ethan Kalis (Riverwoods, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) made one save in the game and came off his line to slide and prevent a shot attempt in the second half to earn his fourth win and first shutout.

The Tartans put six shots on goal for the game while taking another 11 that were either wide, high, or blocked by a defender.

Late in the 30th minute sophomore William Rabon (Grand Rapids, Mich. / International Academy) was fouled inside the box awarding a penalty kick to the Tartans. Junior Josh Baugh (Boynton Beach, Fla. / Boca Prep) converted the kick for the game's only goal. The score was Baugh's second of the season with his first also coming from the penalty spot.

In the second half, graduate student Jordi Long (Washington, D.C. / Montgomery Blair) took a free kick on the left side of the field that whistled just outside the right post.

The Tartans will next host Mount Aloysius on Tuesday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m.
