Tartans Fall 2-0 to #14 Chicago

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team played their third straight nationally ranked opponent on Sunday, October 31 when 14th-ranked University of Chicago visited Pittsburgh. The Maroons were able to breakthrough in the second half and finished with a 2-0 win to move the Tartans record to 6-6-3 and 0-5-1 in the University Athletic Association.

The game-winning goal came in the 68th minute when the Maroons earned a free kick from about 40 yards out. The free kick was sent to the right corner of the six-yard box where Richard Gillespie jumped up for a header he put on frame for senior Ethan Kalis (Riverwoods, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) to grab at the top center of the net. As Kalis came down, he slipped and the ball came loose. Gillespie, who had followed his header further into the box, tipped the loose ball into the net for the score.

Seven minutes later, Lyndon Hu scored his first goal of the year when he ran into the top of the six-yard box and struck a right-footed shot to the right post off a crossing pass by Ryan Shea.

Sophomore William Rabon (Grand Rapids, Mich. / International Academy) had a shot got wide in the 78th minute and freshman Billy Boucuvalas (Oakwood, Ohio / Oakwood) watched a shot sail just high of the frame in the 88th  minute.

The Tartans will host their final game of the season on Sunday, November 7 when Case Western Reserve University visits Pittsburgh for a 1:30 p.m. match.
