Best Times Recorded at Western PA Invite

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team competed at the Western Pennsylvania Invitational at the University of Pittsburgh on Friday and Saturday for a tune-up to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.

Senior Gabe Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass. / CRLS) registered 282.45 points on the 1-meter board to lead the Tartans with a fourth-place finish while he scored 267.55 points on the 3-meter board to also finish fourth and lead the Tartans. Both scores were after six dives.

Freshman Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) led the team in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a second-place finish in 9:36.78 and touched fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 46.95. In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Baris Denizli (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick) was second in 4:40.24 with senior Mitchell Riek (Sunland, Calif. / Bishop Alemany) touching third in 4:40.29.

Freshman Doug Heymann (Lake Oswego, Ore. / Lake Oswego) was third in the 200-yared freestyle in 1:43.07.

Sophomore Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) touched fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in 50.35 and second in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:52.36.

Freshman Arel Shoua (Tiburon, Calif. / Marin Academy) was third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.54 while freshman Jonathan Lessiohadi (Lawrenceville, N.J. / George School) was fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:09.38.

Junior Ryan Fitzpatrick (Montgomery, N.J. / Montgomery) recorded a career-best time in the 50-yard freestyle and led the Tartans with a time of 21.47

The UAA Championships are next and begin on Wednesday, February 13 in Chicago, Illinois.
