Tartans Win Two Relays at Kenyon Relay Meet

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team participated in the Kenyon College Relays on Saturday, October 19. The Tartans finished second to Kenyon with 88 points, while topping the Ohio Northern University, College of Wooster, and Ohio Wesleyan University.

The Tartans swept the first three spots on both diving boards with sophomore James Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School) earning victories on both with scores of 268.15 on the 1-meter board and 293.25 on the 3-meter board. Freshman Oskar Eisgruber (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) was second on the 1-meter board with a score of 266.15 points while sophomore Judson Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School) was third with a score of 252.60. On the 3-meter board, Judson finished second with a score of 232.85 while freshman Matthew Wagner (Mason, Ohio / Wiliam Mason) earned a score of 225.95 to finished third.

Swimming highlights include two first-place finishes and three second-place finishes.

Junior Max Gonzalez (Allison Park, Pa. / North Allegheny), senior Sam Hawke (Malvern, Pa. / Episcopal Academy), freshman Aleksander Tarczynski (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield), and junior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) won the 400-yard IM relay in a time of 3:31.25 while Britton, freshman Matthew Nagler (West Chicago, Ill. / St. Charles East), freshman Erik Feldmann (Yakima, Wash. / West Valley), and freshman Yousef Hassen (Redlands, Calif. / Redlands) were first in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:24.14.

The 200-yard medley relay kicked off the meet with a second-place finish. Britton, freshman Seaver Dahlgren (Mill Valley, Calif. / Branson), Gonzalez, and Nagler touched in 1:34.53.

The 200-yard backstroke relay picked up a second-place finish behind the group of senior Ben Baxter (Bernardsville, N.J. / Bernards), Hawke, senior Preston Vander Vos (South Windsor, Conn. / South Windsor), and Nagler in 1:39.89.

The 200-yard breaststroke relay followed with a second-place finish. Sophomore Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield), Dahlgren, freshman Mason Loyet (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo), and Tarczynski finished in 1:48.21.

The Tartans will next swim against Case Western Reserve University at home on Saturday, October 26 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
