Tartans Sweep UAA Honors for Men’s Swimming and Diving

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming junior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) and diving sophomore Judson Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School) were named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week. Britton earns his second honor of the season while Kyle earns his first.

Britton continued his fast start to the season with a pair of season-best times that top the UAA in the 100-yard backstroke in 49.81 and in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:51.95. His time in the 100-yard backstroke is second nationally and a provisional qualifying time, while his 200-yard backstroke time is fifth nationally. Britton was also part of the 200-yard freestyle relay that set a new pool record with a time of 1:23.83 and the 200-yard medley relay (1:33.45) that took first in the dual meet win with Washington and Lee University.

Kyle qualified for the NCAA Regional Diving Meet by meeting the standard for the second time this season after six dives. His score of 329.70 on the 1-meter board topped the divers on Saturday in the home meet against Washington and Lee University. He was second on the 3-meter board with 322.73 points.

Both will be back in action this weekend as Britton and the rest of the swimmers are at West Virginia University and Kyle and the divers host a diving invitational. Swimming competition begins Thursday and runs through Saturday while the divers compete on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
