Tartans Show Depth in Home Tri-Meet with Calvin and Denison

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team hosted Calvin University and Denison University for a tri-meet on Saturday, January 18 a week after returning from the team's training trip in Miami, Florida. The Tartans defeated Calvin, 197-103, and fell to Denison, 162-136.

Top results for the Tartans came in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, and 100-yard butterfly while the home team finished second in the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 50-yard freestyle, and the 100-yard butterfly.

Freshman John McNab (Westport, Conn. / Staples) won both distance freestyle events with a season-best time of 9:29.77 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and a time of 4:39.84 in the 500-yard freestyle.

Freshman Aleksander Tarczynski (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) led a trio of Tartans in the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 50.32 and finished second in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:52.54.

Sophomore Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.02 while sophomore Jonathan Hua (New Providence, N.J. / Delbarton) was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 52.17.

Freshman Seaver Dahlgren (Mill Valley, Calif. / Branson) was the first of four Tartans in a row in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke, touching in 57.71 and 2:06.59.

Freshman Matthew Nagler (West Chicago, Ill. / St. Charles East) earned second in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.28.

Sophomore James Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School) was second on the 1-meter diving board with a score of 288.20 and second on the 3-meter board with a score of 290.70 to top the list of Tartan divers.

The Tartans will next dive at the Western Pennsylvania Invitational at the University of Pittsburgh on Friday, January 24 with swimming taking place on Saturday, January 25.
