Two Men's Divers Headed to NCAA Championships; One Men's Swimmer Added

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Two Carnegie Mellon University men's divers have earned the right to compete at the 2020 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships after their performances at the NCAA Region 4 Championships over the weekend. Sophomore brothers, James and Judson Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School), along with freshman swimmer Aleksander Tarczynski (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) will be added to the list of 10 men's swimmers already announced as competitors for national titles on March 18-21 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

James Kyle opened the NCAA Diving Regional by placing third on the 3-meter board with a final tally of 518.30 points to earn his place in the national meet. On Saturday, he was fifth on the 1-meter board with a score 454.60.

Judson Kyle was fifth on the 3-meter Friday afternoon with a score of 498.00 which put him in a good position to advance to the national championships for the second straight year. On Saturday, Judson was eighth on the 1-meter with a score of 430.15, and based on results by all the divers, was awarded one of the seven bids from Region 4.

At last year's NCAA Championships, Judson finished 11th on the 3-meter board to earn Honorable Mention All-America and help the men's team finish 16th.

Tarczynski was added to the list of swimmers after being the first alternate when the NCAA announced the invited swimmers last week. Tarczynski was invited in the 400-yard IM after achieving a B cut of 3:56.75 during the Kenyon College Fast Chance Invitational.
