#18 Tartans Open Spring Break with Shutout Win Over Sewanee

(CLAREMONT, Calif.) - The No. 18 Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team opened its spring break tour with a 9-0 win over Sewanee - University of the South on Sunday, March 10 in Claremont, California. The victory moves the Tartans record to 7-0 and begins a four-day stretch against top-notch Division III opponents for the Tartans.

Senior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) and sophomore Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) won at No. 1 doubles 8-4 while freshmen Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) and Kosuke Hasegawa (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) won 8-2 at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) and freshman Abhisek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) won their No. 3 doubles match 8-6.

In singles play, Heaney-Secord won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, Alla won at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-3 and Miller won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Rounding out singles play was Kumar at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win, Hasegawa at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 and senior Harsha Rao (Severn, Md./Old Mill) at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-1.

The Tartans put their undefeated record on the line Monday, March 11 against nationally ranked Bowdoin College at 1:00 p.m. PT. The No. 5 Polar Bears are 1-0 and began their dual match season Sunday with a 7-2 win over Stevens Institute.
