#16 Tartans Move On to Semifinals of UAA Championship

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) – The 16th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship with a 7-2 victory over 29th-ranked University of Chicago Friday, April 26 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.  With the win, the Tartans improve to 13-5 overall while the Maroons move to 12-5.

Carnegie Mellon began the match sweeping doubles play before taking a 4-0 lead as freshman Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School won 6-1, 6-2 over Ankur Bhargava at No. 2 singles.

Shortly following Alla's victory, sophomore Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) sealed the Tartans victory winning a three-set match over Deepak Sabada.  Heaney-Secord dropped the first set 7-5 before winning 6-2 and 6-1 in the second and third, respectively.

Carnegie Mellon then earned points at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.  Senior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) won in the fourth spot 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 while freshman Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4.

Carnegie Mellon will now face 3rd-ranked Emory University Saturday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the semifinals.
