Tartans Top Walsh, 9-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team hosted Walsh University on Friday, October 5. The Tartans swept through by a 9-0 score.

In doubles action, seniors Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) and Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill. / Boca Prep International School) won 8-2 in the number one position. Seniors Vayum Arora (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) and Yannick Bloem (Geneva, Switzerland / EPFL, Lausanne) also won their match, doing so by an 8-6 score at second doubles. The final doubles point came from junior Robert Levin (Virginia Beach, Va. / Princess Anne) and sophomore Joshua Pinckney (Atlanta, Ga. / The Westminster Schools) at third doubles, 8-2.

Levine won his number one singles match, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, while Levin won at third singles, 6-2, 6-4. Another win for the Tartans came from Arora at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0, as Downing won by retirement, 6-0, 3-0.

Freshman Clark Safran (Stanford, Calif. / Menlo School) won his fifth singles match, 6-1, 6-4, while freshman Sam Gibson (Chico, Calif. / Pleasant Valley) finished the sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win at sixth singles.

The Tartans will take a break from team play until February but Levine and Downing will compete next weekend in the ITA Oracle Cup in Rome, Georgia.
