#10 Men's Tennis Takedown Division I Mount St. Mary's 8-1

(HARMARVILLE, Pa.) – The 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team moved to 3-1 on the season with an 8-1 victory over Division I Mount St. Mary's University Saturday evening. The Mountaineers are now 1-4 after dropping the contest at the Alpha Tennis Club in Harmerville.

Carnegie Mellon led 2-1 following doubles play as the Tartans recorded wins at the first and third spots. The tandem of senior Vayum Arora (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) and sophomore Joshua Pinckney (Atlanta, Ga. / The Westminster Schools) took the first point of the match with an 8-4 win at third doubles. The duo of seniors Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill. / Boca Prep International School) and Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) then made the score 2-0 after winning 8-4 at first doubles. The Mountaineers then took second doubles by the score of 8-6.

The Cardinal and Gray then swept singles play with straight set victories in each match. Levine clinched the win for the home team with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at first singles.

Carnegie Mellon will be back on the courts Friday, February 2 when the open play at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship against Washington University in St. Louis.
