ITA Honors Men’s Tennis as All-Academic Team; Seven Named Scholar Athletes

(TEMPE, Ariz.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team was honored for the 11th straight season and 18th time in the last 19 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, seven players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above during the last academic year and the Tartans achieved a cumulative average of 3.65 for the year.

In addition to the team honor, senior Robert Levin (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne), juniors Ray Boppana (Boxborough, Mass./Acton Boxborough Regional) and Joshua Pinckney (Atlanta, Ga./The Westminster Schools), sophomore Clark Safran (Stanford, Calif./Menlo School), and freshmen Edward Chen (Boston, Mass./Shanghai American School), Matthew Poh (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa), and Leo Wang (San Marino, Calif./San Marino High School) were honored as ITA Scholar Athletes.

In order to be eligible to be an ITA Scholar Athlete, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have an academic year GPA of at least 3.50, and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
