ITA Honors Men’s Tennis as All-Academic Team; 11 Named Scholar Athletes

(TEMPE, Ariz.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team was honored for the 12th straight season and 19th time in the last 20 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, 11 players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above during the last academic year and the Tartans achieved a cumulative average of 3.76 for the year.

In addition to the team honor, seniors Ray Boppana (Boxborough, Mass./Acton Boxborough Regional) and Joshua Pinckney (Atlanta, Ga./The Westminster Schools), junior Sam Gibson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley), sophomores Edward Chen (Boston, Mass./Shanghai American School), Matthew Poh (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa), and freshman Brandon Aprill (Mountain View, Calif./The Menlo School), Arjan Bedi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy), Jaden D'Abreo (Portland, Ore./Jesuit), Michael Fourchy (Fresno, Calif./Clovis North), Nadim Motaghedi (Cerritos, Calif./Whitney), and Derek Wong (La Jolla, Calif./Francis Parker) were honored as ITA Scholar Athletes.

In order to be eligible to be an ITA Scholar Athlete, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have an academic year GPA of at least 3.50, and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
