Tartans Split Action with Oberlin and Tiffin

(OBERLIN, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team split two matches at Oberlin College on Saturday, February 19, topping Oberlin 8-1 before falling to Division II Tiffin University, 4-3. The Tartans are now 3-2 overall.

In the morning match against Oberlin, the Tartans swept through doubles play with an 8-3 win at second doubles by sophomore Jaden D'Abreo (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit) and sophomore Michael Fourchy (Fresno, Calif. / Clovis North) kicking things off.

The Tartans secured the match after two victories in singles play with sophomore Nicholas Wernink (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Academy) and junior Raahil Doshi (Singapore, Singapore / Anglo - Chinese School (Independent), Singapore) winning their matches. Wernink won first at third singles by a 6-1, 6-2 score before Doshi won 6-1, 6-4 at second singles. 

Other winners for the Tartans against Oberlin were freshman William Wang (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis), junior Matthew Poh (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Mira Costa), and freshman Benny Zhou (Allen, Texas / iUniversity Prep).

Against Tiffin, the Dragons took a 1-0 lead after doubles play, winning at all three positions.

Winners for the Tartans against Tiffin were Wernink in a supertiebreaker, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) at third singles, Poh at fifth singles, 6-4, 6-4, and D'Abreo at sixth singles, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

The Tartans will next play at home against Edinboro University on Saturday, February 26, before starting their spring break trip on Sunday, March 6, against RPI in Orlando, Florida.
