#22 Tartans Start UAA Play #11 Emory

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The 22nd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team opened University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Thursday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida, and fell by the score of 6-1 to 11th-ranked Emory University. The Tartans record is now 5-11 while the Eagles move to 8-8.

The Tartans trailed 2-1 following doubles play with the team point coming at the two spot. The tandem of senior Sam Gibson (Chico, Calif. / Pleasant Valley) and junior Matthew Poh (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Mira Costa) won 8-3.

When play was halted, both Poh and junior Jonathan Nottingham (Philadelphia, Pa. / Masterman High School) each won their first set.

Carnegie Mellon will now play NYU on Friday in the consolation semifinals at 12:30 p.m.
