Athletes and Team Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the men’s 2012 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Teams and Carnegie Mellon University was included on the list. A total of 74 institutions earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.1 or better.
Aldrich Named to the USA Track & Field National Team Staff for 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships

Carnegie Mellon University Associate Head Track and Field Coach Gary Aldrich has been named men’s throws coach for the USA Track & Field National Team at the 2012 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Junior Championships. The Championships will be held in Barcelona, Spain from July 10-15.

Kissell Ends Career as Capital One Academic All-American

Carnegie Mellon University senior Ryan Kissell (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) finished his track and field career with the highest academic and athletic honor one can garner as he was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Men's Track and Cross Country Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Carnegie Mellon University had two athletes named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for men's cross country and track and field for the 2011-12 season; senior Ryan Kissell (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and junior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson). CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.

Erra-Hernandez will be competing in the shot put.
Athletes Travel North to Compete at Allegheny's Gator Invitational

Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Outstanding Performer in the running events, as announced Thursday, May 3. The honor comes after the Tartans finished second at the UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday, April 29.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s track and field team hosted the final day of the 2012 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships Sunday, April 29. The two-day event was held at Gesling Stadium. The Tartans ended the competition in second place with 149.5 points while Washington University won the title scoring 195.5 points.
