Tartans Finish Second at Midweek Tri Meet at Allegheny

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team traveled north to Allegheny College for a midweek tri meet with the Gators and Penn State Behrend. The Tartans finished second with 110 points.

Junior David Markowitz (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) finished second in the javelin throw with a distance of 48.74m while junior Nathan Cheek (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) finished third with a throw of 48.19m.

Junior Zachary Erra-Hernandez (Las Cruces, N.M./Onate) recorded a career mark in the hammer throw with a distance of 51.25m, winning the event as Cheek was second with a mark of 47.75m and senior Patrick Robinson (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) was third with a mark of 44.25m. Erra-Hernandez also won the shot put with a mark of 15.41m had a top-three finish in the discus, taking second place with a mark of 46.53m. Sophomore Gino Pilato (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) picked up two third-place marks, throwing the discus 42.68m and the shot put 13.40m.

In the jumps, freshman Brandon Hoane (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) finished fourth in the triple jump, leaping a career best 11.90m while freshman Patrick Chang (Millbrae, Calif./Mills) was third in the long jump with a distance of 5.82m. In the pole vault, junior Chris Holiday (Athens, Ohio/Athens) was third, clearing 4.10m.

Freshman Thomas Mayo-Smith (Rye, N.Y./Rye) won the 800-meter run in best time of 1:57.90 while senior Noel Titus (Bronx, N.Y./Choate Rosemary Hall) finished second in 100-meter dash in a career-best time of 10.96 and second in the 200-meter dash in a season-best time of 22:29.

Freshman Zach Dell (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a best time of 1:00.47 while freshman Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) was second in the 1,500-meter run in 4:09.01 with sophomore Eamon Cullinane (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) placing third in the same event in 4:14.46.

The Tartans will next compete at the University Athletic Association Outdoor Championships hosted by New York University in New York, N.Y., on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28.
