Tartans Compete at Marietta to Close Out Opening Weekend

(MARIETTA, Ohio) — The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the Marietta College Pioneer Open, the second meet of the weekend, on Saturday. The men placed 9th among 16 teams of Division III competitors at the meet.

Freshman Zahir Saiyed (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) placed fourth overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.81. Saiyed also competed in the 4x400 meter relay with freshman Noah Lynch (Amesbury, Mass. / Amesbury) and sophomores Mitchell Waters (Louisville, Colo. / Monarch) and Tyler Waters (Louisville, Colo. / Monarch.). The relay finished third overall in a time of 3:37.

Lynch competed in the 200-meter dash finishing in a time of 25.32, fellow freshman Verne Garin (San Jose, Calif. / Bellarmine College Prep) finished the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.46. Lynch also ran in the 55m hurdles finishing with a time of 8.47.

Freshman Leland Davies (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick High School) won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02. Sophomore Naren Karur (Santa Clara, Calif. / Saint Francis) placed fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:31.

Freshman Zachary Nowak (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn High School) won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:08. Junior Everett Kolto (Southlake, Texas / Carroll Senior) took fifth in the 3,000-meter with a time of 9:27.

Freshman Len Huang (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) placed ninth in the shot put with a toss of 12.48 meters. Junior Logan Stahl (Oil City, Pa. / Oil City) placed eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.80.

Senior Dhroovaa Khannan (San Ramon, Calif. / Dougherty Valley) placed fifth in the long jump with 6.47 meters. Freshman Thomas Brecher (New York, N.Y. / Trinity) finished fifth in the triple jump with 12.62 meters.

The Tartans will compete next at Case Western University in the annual Battle for the Obelisk on Saturday, January 25th.
