Tartans in Third After First Day of UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

(NEW YORK, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team currently sits third in the field following the first day of competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships on Saturday. The two-day championships are hosted by NYU at the Armory in New York City. The Tartans have 35 points and trail University of Chicago by four points while Washington University in St. Louis leads with 58 points.

Senior Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard), freshman Noah Lynch (Amesbury, Mass. / Amesbury), sophomore Graham Eversden (Chandler, Ariz. / Chandler) and senior Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan / American School in Japan) raced to a second-place finish in the distance medley relay with a season-best time of 10:08.56.

In the 5,000-meter run senior Edward Goebel (Abington, Pa. / La Salle College HS) and junior Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y. / Notre Dame) both raced to career-best times. Goebel placed fourth with a time of 14:42.77 with Karee finishing fifth in 14:49.75.

Junior Matt Sloan (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) placed third in the high jump clearing a height of 1.90 meters. Sloan also took seventh in the long jump with a career-best mark of 6.26 meters. Senior Fred Dauphin (Brockton, Mass. / Cardinal Spellman) also turned in a career-best mark in the long jump with a distance of 6.69 meters to place third.

Junior Logan Stahl (Oil City, Pa. / Oil City) placed fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.74 meters.

The UAA Indoor Track and Field competition will resume Sunday, March 1 at 9:30 a.m.
