Tartans Place Third at UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

(NEW YORK, N.Y.) — The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team placed third at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by New York University at The Armory in New York City. The men scored 78 points to finish third behind Washington University with 201 points and University of Chicago with 115 points.

In the men's triple jump, the Tartans scored 14 points overall with all three competitors recording career-best marks. Senior Fred Dauphin (Brockton, Mass. / Cardinal Spellman) placed second with a jump of 14.25 meters, junior Matt Sloan placed fifth with 13.53 meters and freshman Thomas Brecher (New York, N.Y. / Trinity) finished seventh with 13.05 meters.

Senior Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) placed fifth in the mile-run with a time of 4:15.81, and fellow senior Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan / American School in Japan) placed seventh with a time of 4:19.44. Sophomore Heoseph Desir (Montville, N.J. / Montville Township) placed eighth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 51.86.

Sophomore Graham Eversden (Chandler, Ariz. / Chandler) took second in the 800-meter in a time of 1:54.33. Seniors Hunter Hartshorne (Ithaca, N.Y. / Ithaca) and Harrison Branch-Shaw (New York, N.Y. / Brooklyn Technical) placed eighth and ninth in the 3,000-meter run. Hartshorne crossed in 8:43.60 with Branch-Shaw finishing in 8:43.88.

Sophomore Brian Lane (Frederick, Md. / Oakdale) placed sixth in the pole vault clearing a career-best height of 3.98 meters. Freshman Bailey O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.89 meters.

The Tartans will compete next at the Ohio Northern Last Chance Meet in Ada, Ohio on Saturday, February 7.
