Karee, Kiefel, Miller and Sloan Named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans

After having a record three Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country and track and field athletes named College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Americans a season ago, the Tartans topped the record and had four garner the accolade for 2021. Junior Justin Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) landed a spot on the Men's Cross Country/Track and Field First Team, seniors Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y. / Notre Dame), Bram Miller (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) were named to the second team while senior Matt Sloan (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) was named to the third team. It marks Karee's third straight appearance on the team after garnering second team recognition a year ago and third team honors after his sophomore campaign.
Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2021 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Teams and Carnegie Mellon University was included on the list for the 25th consecutive year. A total of 160 men's teams and 214 women's teams earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.10 or better for the 2020-21 academic year.
Four Men Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Seniors Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y. / Notre Dame), Bram Miller (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) and Matt Sloan (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) along with junior Justin Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field and cross country teams have been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as Men's Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-District selections. The honor marks the third for Karee and second for Miller.

Senior Harry Branch-Shaw (New York, N.Y. / Brooklyn Technical) and graduate student Hunter Hartshorne (Ithaca, N.Y. / Ithaca) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday at the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The three-day championships are being held at the Irwin Belk Track Complex in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Outdoor Track and Field Garners 18 USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s and women’s track and field teams had 18 Mideast All-Region honors awarded to its athletes by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2021 outdoor track and field season. Thirteen represent the men while five represent the women with four men receiving multiple honors and one woman.
Five Tartans Selected to Compete at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Five Carnegie Mellon University track and field athletes have earned a place to compete at the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships with two selected to compete in two events. The championship meet will take place at the Irwin Belk Track Complex in Greensboro, North Carolina, from May 27-29.
Tartan Men Finish Second at All-Atlantic Region Championships

The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team took 14 members to the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by St. John Fisher in Pittsford, N.Y., for a two-day competition. Those 14 athletes helped the team finish second overall and just four points behind the winner, SUNY Brockport. Senior Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) recorded a meet record while smashing his own school record, as junior Justin Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) topped his career-bests and school records in two jumping events. Freshman Andrew McGovern (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) also set a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles.
