Tartans Compete at Dave Labor Invitational

(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team traveled to Slippery Rock University on Saturday to compete in the Dave Labor Invitational.

The Tartans 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Brian Hu (Vienna, Va. / Thomas Jefferson), sophomore Alex Halkias (Berlin, Conn. / Berlin), freshman David Shao (San Jose, Calif. / Valley Christian) and senior Marvin Bennett Jr. (Baltimore, Md. / Phillips Exeter Academy) placed first with a time of 43.24.

Junior Graham Eversden (Chandler, Ariz. / Chandler) finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.97. Graduate student Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) crossed the line in 3:59.70 in the 1,500-meter run to place third. After winning the 400-meter race last week, freshman Pranav Rajbhandari (Marietta, Ga. / Walton) topped his winning time from a week ago and crossed in 52.05 Saturday.

Rajbhandari, sophomore Leland Davies (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick High School), Eversden and freshman Andrew McGovern (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) ran the 4x400-meter relay and placed first with a time of 3:23.16.

Senior Matt Sloan (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) cleared the bar at 1.86 meters and placed fourth. Junior Justin Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) recorded a personal-best mark in the long jump with a mark of 7.21 meters to win the event. The junior also won the triple jump with a distance of 14.50 meters.

The hammer throw saw sophomore Bailey O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) record a personal-best toss of 43.96 meters.

Carnegie Mellon will next compete at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, April 11.
