UAA Honors Kiefel and OBroin for Indoor Achievements

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University seniors Justin Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) and Michael OBroin (Park Ridge, Ill. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) when the 2022 UAA Indoor Track and Field awards were announced Thursday. Kiefel was named Most Outstanding Performer in the field events while OBroin received the same accolade for running events.

Kiefel won the triple jump with a mark of 14.45 meters after placing second in the long jump with a school-record tying leap of 7.17 meters. He currently ranks fourth nationally in the triple jump and 14th nationally in the long jump.

OBroin won the 5,000-meter run on day one of competition, breaking both the UAA indoor meet record and the Carnegie Mellon school record as he crossed in 14:23.22. He topped the old school record by 12.73 seconds and the UAA record by 11.72 seconds. OBroin then ran a personal-best time of 8:28.08 in the 3,000-meter run on day two to place fourth. His time in the 5,000-meter run currently ranks seventh nationally.
