O’Malley and Halkias Honored by UAA

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Juniors Bailey O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) and Alex Halkias (Berlin, Conn. / Berlin) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's outdoor track and field team were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week following their performances at the Washington and Lee Track and Field Carnival over the weekend. O'Malley collected the accolade for field events while Halkias for running.

O'Malley recorded a second and third finish in the hammer throw and shot put, respectively. He had a career-best throw of 51.23 meters in the hammer and threw the shot put 13.91 meters. His hammer distance is currently tops in the UAA and fifth nationally.

Halkias recorded to personal-best times on the track and tabbed a second and two third place finishes. He took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.97 and recorded a third place showing in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.77. Halkias started the meet placing third in the long jump with a mark of 6.68 meters. He ranks tops in the UAA in all three events while 10th nationally in the 100-meter dash and 11th in the 200-meter dash.

Next up for the Tartans is their home invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 25-26. Events kickoff on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
