Head Softball Coach Monica Harrison Tosses First Pitch at PNC Park

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - On Wednesday evening, September 6, Carnegie Mellon University head softball coach Monica Harrison threw out the first pitch at PNC Park prior to the Pirates game. Harrison was named the first head softball coach in school history in June, as the team will begin varsity play in the spring of 2019. Softball became the 19th varsity sport at Carnegie Mellon, and second intercollegiate program added in the past four years.

"I was so honored to be able to represent Carnegie Mellon in throwing out the first pitch," said Harrison. "Being recognized as the first head softball coach in school history and getting recognition from the Pirates - a team that I grew up loving - was such an awesome experience. I am excited about what is to come with the program and appreciate all of the support the University and the City of Pittsburgh has been extending in welcoming Tartan Softball!"

Carnegie Mellon junior Rae Lasko caught Harrison's first pitch before the Pirates' 1-0 loss to the Cubs.
