Song Records Five Hits, 2 RBIs in Two Games at Emory

(ATLANTA, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University softball team closed a road trip to University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent Emory University on Saturday, March 30 with two losses to the now 18-4 Eagles. Despite scoring first in the first game, the Tartans, now 5-11 and 0-4, fell 4-1. The Eagles then won the second game 10-2 in six innings. Freshman Emily Song (Mount Arlington, N.J. / Roxbury) led the Tartans offense with five hits in six at bats.

Game 1: Emory 4, Carnegie Mellon 1

Song was 3-for-3 in the first game with the lone RBI. Her third hit of the game knocked in pinch runner Amanda Schwartz (Fairfield, N.J. / West Essex Regional) from second after pitcher Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach) singled to start off the inning. The Eagles scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning off McGee who surrendered two hits during the inning while the Tartans made two errors in the field. For the game, McGee struck out seven batters while allowing six hits.

Game 2: Emory 10, Carnegie Mellon 2

The Eagles scored three runs in the second inning off Schwartz before McGee came in for 2.1 innings of relief work. Song registered another RBI for the day in the third inning when she singled in senior Rae Lasko (Diamond Bar, Calif. / Diamond Bar) from second after Lasko singled and advanced to second on a ground out by McGee.

Emory was able to score two more runs in the third and fourth innings, before one in the fifth and then two in the sixth to end the game. The Tartans scored their second run in the top of the sixth inning when Song scored on a ground out to third by freshman Io Jette-Kouri (Pasadena, Calif. / Westridge). Song doubled to lead off the inning and stole third base for her team-leading sixth of the season.

The Tartans will face non-conference opponent Bethany College (1-7) for two games on Wednesday, April 3 in Bethany, West Virginia, starting at 3:30 p.m.
