Hu, McGee Honored on All-UAA Softball Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Two Carnegie Mellon University softball freshmen earned the first-ever All-University Athletic Association (UAA) awards in program history when the UAA announced the 2019 All-Association Softball Team today. Shortstop Megan Hu (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) and pitcher Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) each earned a place on the second team after leading the Tartans to a 13-25 record in the inaugural season for the university.

Hu had some of her strongest performances throughout the season during league play, hitting .344 with a double, six RBIs, eight runs scored and eight stolen bases. For the season, the left-handed slapper hit .372, which was second-best on the squad. She totaled five doubles and a triple while leading the Tartans with 45 hits in 121 at bats. She was second on the team in RBIs with 18 and finished the year with a .908 fielding percentage while playing all but one game for the first-year program.

McGee had a standout first year in the circle for the Tartans, pitching 136.1 innings and collecting eight wins in 19 games started. She registered the first win in program history and the first no-hitter in program history, which was also the first shutout in program history. The right-hander led the association in strikeouts with 148 and finished the year with a 3.03 ERA. In McGee's league-leading 12 starts and 17 appearances during UAA play, she struck out 73 batters, won four games and pitched nearly double the innings of her freshman pitching teammate.
