Bermudez Homers but Tartans Falter in Road Doubleheader at Geneva

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University softball team traveled north to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, to play Geneva College on Monday, March 22, falling twice the the Golden Tornadoes who are now 11-3 for the season. The Tartans are even at 3-3 after Geneva won game one by a 6-1 score and game two, 11-3.

Game 1 - Geneva 6 Tartans 1

Geneva got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with two hits after the first two outs were recorded. The Tartans tied it in the third inning when freshman Kiera Boucher (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) singled to left field with two outs and advanced to second on a error by the left fielder. Junior Megan Hu (Katy, Texas / Seven Lakes) then singled to center field with Boucher scoring on the play.

Geneva scored the rest of the game's runs in its half of the third inning off three hits.

The Tartans recorded eight hits for the game but couldn't string them together for any more than one run.

 

Game 2 - Geneva 11 Tartans 3

Geneva's bats gave them a lead 3-0 lead in the first inning when a bases loaded double scored three.

The Tartans scored twice in the top of the third inning with sophomore Tessa Bruneau (Edgewater Park, N.J. / Holy Cross Prep) singled to left field to plate junior Emily Song (Mount Arlington, N.J. / Roxbury), who reached on an error, and junior Io Jette-Kouri (Pasadena, Calif. / Westridge), who singled to left field with one out.

Sophomore Isabel Bermudez (Austin, Texas / Dripping Springs) led off the top of the fourth inning with her second home run of the season to tie the game at 3-all.

The Golden Tornadoes retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with two runs and then closed the game in the bottom of the sixth with six runs on six hits and two Tartan errors.

 

The Tartans will return to action on Friday, March 26 when they host a doubleheader with Penn State Behrend beginning at 3:30 p.m.
