(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Sophomore Piper Johnson (Riverside, Calif. / Martin Luther King) and junior Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif. /  Huntington Beach) earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards on March 30 for their respective weekly performances in four games played by the Carnegie Mellon University softball team last week.

Johnson was named UAA Softball Hitter of the Week after batting .600 while starting three of the four games. In two games at Geneva, Johnson started as the designated player and was 1-for-3 at the plate and then entered the second game in the fifth inning at third base and singled to second in her only plate appearance. In the doubleheader with Penn State Behrend, Johnson smashed two doubles to knock in two runs in the first game while she knocked in three runs and hit a triple in the second game. The sophomore, who played catcher and was the designated player, also scored three runs. In the two at bats vs. Penn State Behrend that didn't go down as hits, Johnson put the ball in play to record RBIs. Her season batting average of .529 leads the team.

McGee earned her first win of the season in shutout fashion on Friday against Penn State Behrend when the right-hander struck out a season-best 10 batters while scattering two hits in a 5-0 win. Her other outing for the week was relief work against Geneva when she struck out five batters in 3.2 innings, allowing just one hit and zero runs.

The Tartans return to the field this afternoon at Mt. Aloysius in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
