(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Freshman Libby Eichberger (Aurora, Ill. / Metea Valley) has been named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Softball Hitter of the Week after her performance during the Carnegie Mellon University softball team's eight games last week in California. The award is the first for the Tartans this season.

Eichberger had a fantastic week with a team-leading 12 hits in a team-leading 29 at bats through the eight games played in which the Tartans went 4-4 with a victory over ninth-ranked University of Rochester.

Eichberger, who has appeared in 12 games this season, extended her hitting streak to 11 games and recorded three multi-hit games in the eight games for the week, compiling a batting average of .414 for the Tartans. Additionally, Eichberger scored six runs with two RBIs, batting in three different positions in the lineup.

Against #9 Rochester, the first-year outfielder had two singles and scored two runs in a 9-1 five-inning victory to start the week. The left-handed batter also had two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI in a 16-15 win against Cal Lutheran where she singled twice in a nine-run sixth inning for the Tartans who trailed 13-7 entering the frame. Eichberger closed the week with three hits in a 3-2 victory at La Verne, singling and then scoring the winning run in the top of the seventh.

The 11-game hitting streak is third-best in program history and the best start by a freshman since Io Jette-Khouri hit safely in her first 12 games played in 2019.
