Eleven Earn NFCA All-America Scholar Honors

Eleven Carnegie Mellon University softball athletes were honored for their 2022-23 academic success by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). All eleven were named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes for finishing the year with a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) or better.

Monji Shares Student Experience

Kira Monji just completed her first year at Carnegie Mellon majoring in international relations and politics and competing on the softball team. Prior to joining the Tartans, Kira had the opportunity to play for Team Japan in the Triple Crown Softball International Challenge. We asked her about that experience and how her identity has shaped her softball and college experience so far.

Nine Carnegie Mellon University student-athletes were named to a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for Division III, nominated by members of CSC, for the tennis and softball seasons. College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) rebranded to CSC in the summer of 2022.

Heffernen and Eichberger Repeat as All-UAA Selections

Junior Erika Heffernen and sophomore Libby Eichberger were once again honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches with selection to the Softball All-Association team for 2023. Heffernen was voted to the first team for the second straight season while Eichberger earned a spot on the second team for the second time.

Six Carnegie Mellon University student-athletes were selected for spring initiation into the Upsilon of Pennsylvania chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. The induction ceremony took place on May 11.

A total of 86 Carnegie Mellon University student-athletes were named to the University Athletic Association’s (UAA) All-Academic Recognition list for the winter sports teams, as announced by the Association on May 4.

Seniors Record Multiple Hits in Last Game as Tartans

April 23, 2023

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team closed its season on Sunday, April 23 against Emory University at All-American Park in Trafford, Pennsylvania. The Eagle took home the win, 18-7, but the Tartan seniors had a day to close their careers by each recording two hits in their final game. The Tartans end the year with a 15-23 record.

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team hosted Emory University on Friday, April 21 for a doubleheader with the Tartans earning a 7-2 victory in game one before falling 6-4 in game two. The Tartans are now 15-22 overall and 5-14 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Eagles move to 17-20 and 7-11 in the league.

Johnson Records 100th Hit in Setback to Emory

April 20, 2023

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team hosted Emory University on Thursday, April 20 for game one of a four-game series, falling 7-3 to the Eagles after a sixth-inning burst by the visitors. The Tartans are now 4-13 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) and 14-21 overall while the Eagles jump to 6-10 in the league and 16-19.

Monji Sets Season Hit Record in Doubleheader with #7 Case Western Reserve

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team hosted seventh-ranked Case Western Reserve University for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 15 falling 6-2 and 8-4 after the Spartans scored late in both games to secure the wins. The Tartans are now 14-20 overall and 4-12 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Spartans improve to 27-2 and 13-2.

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team hosted seventh-ranked Case Western Reserve University for a doubleheader on Friday, April 14 with the Spartans taking both wins by a score of 5-1 in game one and 10-9 in game two. The Tartans are now 14-18 overall and 4-10 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Spartans improve to 25-2 and 11-2.

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team faced Washington University in St. Louis in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 8. Both games were decided by one run with the Bears defending their home field in both by 2-1 and 4-3 scores. Tartans are now 14-15 overall and 4-7 in the UAA while the Bears move to 12-15 and 4-7.

April 07, 2023

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team earned a 2-1 victory after having to play extra innings and invoking the tiebreaker rule in the 10th inning at University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent Washington University in St. Louis. The victory moves the Tartans’ record to 14-13 overall and 4-5 in the UAA while dropping the Bears to 10-15 and 2-7.

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team swept a doubleheader against the College of Wooster on Tuesday, April 4 with a 7-2 game-one victory and a 10-2 victory in five innings for game two. The Tartans are now 13-13 overall while the Fighting Scots move to 12-8.
