Carnegie Mellon Hires Anne Alosa as Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach

The Carnegie Mellon University Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Anne Alosa as a full-time women’s basketball assistant coach. Alosa comes to Pittsburgh with five years of coaching experience, including three years as a collegiate assistant coach.

For freshman basketball player Amanda McHenry, coming to Carnegie Mellon University was an easy decision – once she stepped on campus. As one of the new faces on the 2012-13 women’s basketball team, she had a big role in pushing the program to new heights this past season, even though she wasn’t sure she wanted to play a sport in college.

Carnegie Mellon women’s basketball player Liza Otto (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) was named D3hoops.com 2013 Great Lakes Region Rookie of the Year today. This honor follows the freshman’s All-University Athletic Association Second Team honor two weeks ago.
Tartans Close Year with First Postseason Game in 13 Years

The Carnegie Mellon University women’s basketball team closed the 2012-13 campaign on the road at Juniata College in the first round of the ECAC South Championship, marking the first postseason appearance for the program since 1999-2000. The Tartans (13-13) fell 94-80 to the Eagles (19-8) who are in their fifth straight postseason.
Peel Repeats as All-UAA First Team Selection; Otto Honored on Second Team

Senior Emily Peel (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and freshman Liza Otto (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches with selections to the All-UAA team announced Wednesday, February 27. Peel is a repeat member on the first team while Otto becomes the first Tartan freshman to make the second team since the 2008-09 season.
Carnegie Mellon Women’s Basketball to Play for ECAC South Championship

The Carnegie Mellon University women’s basketball team is in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South tournament after finishing the regular season with the best record in program history since 2002-03. The Tartans won 13 games, including five in the University Athletic Association. The Tartans only other appearance in the ECAC tournament came in 1999-2000 when they defeated Grove City for the title.

The best first half of the season for the Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team was not quite enough as Case Western Reserve University upended the Tartans in the second half for the 88-73 win. The Tartans finish the regular season at 13-12, earning its first winning season since 2002-03, and 5-9 in University Athletic Association play.
