Lisa Murphy Signs Contract to Play Professionally in Denmark

Carnegie Mellon University 2017 graduate Lisa Murphy will continue her basketball career in Denmark where she signed a professional contract with Lemvig Basket of the Dameligaen, the top Danish league for women. Murphy concluded her Tartan career as the first player in team history to be named an All-American by both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and D3hoops.com, a feat she accomplished in back-to-back seasons.

Carnegie Mellon University women’s basketball senior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) was selected as a first team All-American by D3hoops.com for the second straight year when the organization announced its yearly awards prior to the Division III women’s basketball national championship on Saturday, March 18. Murphy’s honor joins her selection as the 2017 Jostens Trophy award winner this season.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team completed the 2016-2017 season with a win Sunday, March 5 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship presented by Visit Myrtle Beach. The Tartans, who hosted the tournament, topped Waynesburg University in the final, 80-69. With the victory, the Tartans won their second ECAC Championship in program history and tied the school record for wins in a season with 21.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team shared the ball and locked down on defense in its Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Semifinal victory against Stevenson University on Saturday, March 4. The Tartans topped the Mustangs, 65-50, to advance to the championship final to be played Sunday on its home court in Pittsburgh. The tournament is presented by Visit Myrtle Beach.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team shot 49.2% to top Brooklyn College, 84-59, in its first game of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Basketball Championship presented by Visit Myrtle Beach on Friday, March 3. The Tartans are serving as host and advance to the semifinals and now have a season record of 19-7.

Senior teammate Jackie Hudepohl (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook/Colgate) has also been recognized for the second year with selection to the first team.

The honor is her second straight as she became the first women’s basketball player in Carnegie Mellon history to be a four-time first-team selection. Joining Murphy on the All-Association team is senior Jackie Hudepohl (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook/Colgate) who was honored for the second time, this year on the second team.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team has been selected to host the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women's Basketball Championship presented by Visit Myrtle Beach, making their third postseason appearance in five seasons. The Tartans are the overall top seed of a 15-team field after finishing the regular season with an 18-7 record.

A 22-point fourth quarter helped the Carnegie Mellon University women’s basketball team rally from a seven-point deficit to top Case Western Reserve University, 72-65, in University Athletic Association (UAA) road action Saturday afternoon. In the win, senior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) tied the UAA record for rebounds with 24 and set a new offensive rebounding record with 12.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to play the Eagles of Emory University and came away with an 82-60 victory on Sunday, February 19. Senior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) continues to put her name in the school's record book, as she became Carnegie Mellon's single-season rebound leader after collecting 15 off the glass. Murphy now has 305 for the season and passes Amy Buxbaum's (90-91) mark of 304.

Carnegie Mellon is now 16-7 and 5-7 in UAA play while Rochester moves to 16-7 and 7-5.
