Murphy Sets Single-Season School Rebound Mark in 82-60 Win at Emory

(ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to play the Eagles of Emory University and came away with an 82-60 victory on Sunday, February 19. Senior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) continues to put her name in the school's record book, as she became Carnegie Mellon's single-season rebound leader after collecting 15 off the glass. Murphy now has 305 for the season and passes Amy Buxbaum's (90-91) mark of 304.
    
The University Athletic Association (UAA) victory moved Carnegie Mellon's record to 17-7 and 6-7 in the UAA while Emory is 14-10, 5-8.

Carnegie Mellon, who shot 57.9% from the floor, had four players score in double figures with Murphy leading the way with 35 points on 16-of-19 shooting. Freshman Katharine Higgins (Montclair, N.J.) ended with 13 points while senior Jackie Hudepohl (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook (Colgate)) and freshman Makayla Filiere (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) each had 10 in the win.

The Tartans held Emory to 33.8% shooting from the floor, as the Eagles were led by Ashley Oldshue with 15 points. Shellie Kaniut added 13 points for Emory.

Carnegie Mellon trailed 11-7 three minutes into play before scoring eight straight points to take a 15-11 lead at the five-minute mark of the first quarter. Emory then scored 11 of the last 17 points of the quarter and led 22-21 at the close. The Tartans converted 9-of-12 from the floor in the opening 10 minutes while Emory converted 9-of-20 including 4-of-9 from behind the arc.

The second quarter saw the Tartans grab a 39-33 lead by the halftime break. Carnegie Mellon trailed 29-28 with 5:22 to play, as the visitor's then closed the quarter on an 11-4 run. During the stretch, four different Tartans scored with Hudepohl accounting for five points. Carnegie Mellon continued its hot shooting in the second quarter and finished shooting 63.0% (17-27) from the floor for the half while Emory shot 38.2% (13-34).

The Tartans outscored Emory 32-10 in the third quarter and led 71-43 as the buzzer sounded. Carnegie Mellon started the quarter on a 20-4 run with Murphy accounting for 12 points during the stretch and 18 for the quarter. Carnegie Mellon maintained control of the game throughout the fourth quarter and went on for the 82-60 win.

Carnegie Mellon will travel to Case Western Reserve University (13-11, 5-8) for its final regular season contest on Saturday, February 25. Tip is set for 3:00 p.m.
