Tartans Push Win Streak to Six with Road Victory

(STEUBENVILLE, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team is now 6-0 after a 75-44 victory at Franciscan University on Sunday, November 25. Four players scored in double figures while two picked up double-doubles in the win.

Junior guards Makayla Filiere (Chandler, Ariz. / Hamilton) and Laurel Pereira (Naperville, Ill. / Naperville North) each scored 16 points while junior forwards Cameron Pitts (Frederick, Md. / Oakdale) and Katie Higgins (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) scored 16 points and 12 points apiece. Pitts led the team on the boards for the second straight game, hauling down 14 rebounds with Higgins grabbing 12 rebounds. Senior Jenn Mayberger (Chesterfield, Mo. / Cor Jesu Academy) assisted on six baskets while Filiere picked up six steals.

Another impressive first quarter by the Tartans gave them a 26-10 lead after they shot 62.5% from the field, making four of their seven three-pointers for the game in the opening period. The defense also caused Franciscan to shoot 27.8% from the field and created four turnovers.

Both teams scored eight buckets in the second quarter but the Tartans grabbed seven offensive rebounds which produced 11 second chance points and the Tartans led 45-27 at the break.

The Tartans will remain on the road when they visit the University of Mount Union on Wednesday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m.
