    Carnegie Mellon University women’s basketball senior Makayla Filiere (Chandler, Ariz. / Hamilton) was honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches this week when the Association announced the 2019-20 All-UAA Women’s Basketball Team. Filiere earned second-team recognition and her third straight honor.

    It took two extra frames but the Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team won its final regular season game by a 71-70 score against visiting Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, February 29. The Tartans finish the year with an 11-14 overall mark and a 4-10 record in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Spartans finish the year at 10-15 and 5-9.

Carnegie Mellon is now 10-12 overall and 3-8 in UAA play while WASHU moves to 13-9 and 6-5.

The Maroons withstood a tough defense by the Tartans to win 52-38 and move to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the UAA with the Tartans now at 7-6 overall and 0-2.
  • Tartans Drop First UAA Contest at Case Western Reserve

    The Carnegie Mellon University women’s basketball team traveled to Case Western Reserve University for the first University Athletic Association (UAA) game of the season on Saturday, January 11. The Spartans won the game 78-51 after shooting 50.0% from the floor with a season-high 13 three-pointers, to move the Tartans record to 7-5 for the year.
  • Banner Fall for Student-Athletes in the Classroom

    It was a memorable fall for the Carnegie Mellon Athletics Program, as five of six fall teams advanced to postseason play, the basketball and swimming and diving teams got off to great starts, and the women’s golf team earned a number one national ranking. Four teams competed in the NCAA postseason, including the women’s soccer team’s run to the national semifinals, and the Tartans once again finished the fall 16th in the Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings. On top of the competitive success, 104 student-athletes achieved 4.0 grade-point averages (GPA) and more than 60 percent of the student-athletes earned a 3.50 GPA or better.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team defeated Marietta College, 81-66, in the championship game of the Pioneers Jim Meagle Holiday Tournament sponsored by BSN Sports on Monday, December 30. Sophomore Leah Weslock (Howell, Mich. / Howell) was named the Lisa Wagner MVP after scoring a career-high 28 points on 12-of-18 shooting with seven rebounds, three steals, two assists and a blocked shot in the victory.

The loss on the second day of the W&J Springhill Suites Tip-Off Tournament moves the Tartans record to 0-3 while the Presidents are now 3-0.
