Tartans Drop Road Contest to UChicago

(CHICAGO, Ill.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team traveled to the University of Chicago for an afternoon University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Sunday, February 6. The Tartans fell to the Maroons, 80-60, and are now 9-8 for the season and 3-5 in the UAA.

The first quarter was back and forth with the Tartans holding the largest lead at four after freshman Catherine Or (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marlborough School) scored on back-to-back layups for the 16-12 lead with 3:48 showing on the clock. The Maroons then closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to hold a 21-18 advantage.

A 10-0 run by UChicago in the middle of the second quarter put the home team up 11 points, 35-24. The Tartans pulled back to within six before another short run by the Maroons put them back up 10 with 2:43 to go. Twice more the Tartans pulled to within six points before the half ended with UChicago holding a 44-36 lead.

An evenly played third quarter left the Maroons ahead by eight. They then opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run and the Tartans never cut the deficit below double digits the rest of the way.

Senior Caitlyn Clendenin (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) led the Tartans with 16 points and six rebounds while Or finished with 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Freshman Anisha Chintala (Austin, Texas / Westwood) also scored in double figures with 11 points.

The Tartans will next play at Washington University in St. Louis on Monday, February 7 at 7:30 p.m. in a rescheduled game from Friday, February 4 due to travel cancelations out of Pittsburgh.
