Tartans Win Second Game by Double-Digits

(ERIE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team played Salisbury University on Friday, November 11 at the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament, defeating the Seagulls, 68-53, for their second straight double-digit victory. The Tartans are now 2-0 for the season while the Seagulls move to 1-1.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans held a slim 16-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, as both teams shot less than 30% from the field.
  • Sophomore Anisha Chintala led the Tartans in the second quarter with six points. The team shot 53.3% in the quarter and extended their lead to 38-21.
  • Nadia Bullock scored nine points in the third quarter for the Seagulls but the Tartans continued their hot shooting with a 44.4% clip for the quarter and increased their lead by five points.
  • Nine of the Tartans' 14 fourth-quarter points were scored by the bench.

For the Tartans

  • Sophomore Catherine Or led the Tartans with 19 points and seven rebounds assists. She also dished out a game-high six assists and had six steals.
  • Chintala made six shots and scored 14 points while blocking three shots.
  • Sophomore Isha Nambisan scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench.

For the Seagulls

  • Nadia Bullock led the Seagulls with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
  • Ashlynn Burrows led Salisbury with nine rebounds.
  • Burrows and Alex Bull each had three assists.

Notes

  • The Tartans shot better than 44.0% for the second straight game.
  • The Tartans won the rebounding battle for the second straight game.
