Tartans Cruise to 6-0 with 89-55 Road Win at La Roche

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team advanced its record to 6-0 with an 89-55 road win at La Roche University on Tuesday, November 29 after a weeklong hiatus from competition.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans shot 52.6% in the first quarter and held that percentage for the game finishing with a season-best 52.9% shooting effort.
  • The Tartans hit a season-best eight three-pointers and shot a season-best 57.1% from behind the arc.
  • The Tartans outrebounded the Redhawks, 41-24, winning the battle on the boards for the sixth straight game.
  • It was a back-and-forth first quarter with two lead changes and the Tartans holding a 21-15 advantage by the end of the frame.
  • A three-pointer by junior Anika Prasad with 6:58 to play in the second quarter gave the Tartans their first double-digit lead at 29-19.
  • The Tartans hit 5-of-7 three-pointers in the pivotal second quarter with Prasad and sophomore Isha Nambisan each dropping in two.
  • Carnegie Mellon outscored the Redhawks, 23-11, in the third quarter to advance their 15-point halftime lead to 27 points before the final frame.

For the Tartans

  • Four players scored in double figures with sophomore Catherine Or leading the team with 16 points.
  • Nambisan continued to lead the team off the bench with 15 points.
  • Or grabbed a game-best nine rebounds and dished out a team-high six assists.
  • Junior Megan Matsko led the team with three steals and two blocked shots.
  • Freshman Ava Black tied her season-best with 10 points.

For the Redhawks

  • Machia Hairston led the team with 15 points and six rebounds.
  • Danajah Sanders had a game-high seven assists

Notes

  • The Tartans took care of the ball, turning it over a season-low 13 times like they did in their season-opening win by an 83-58 score at Allegheny.
