(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team held its University Athletic Association (UAA) home opener on Friday, January 20 against 10th-ranked University of Chicago. The Maroons led from start to finish for an 89-63 win to move to 14-1 overall and 3-1 in the UAA while the Tartans are now 9-6 and 0-4.
How it Happened
- UChicago opened the game with a three-pointer by Sophia North on its opening possession and went on to hit 13 three-pointers for the game with six coming in the first quarter.
- The Tartans hit three baskets in the first quarter and five in the second to trail 46-25 at the break
- Junior Anika Prasad hit the first triple of the game for the Tartans to open the second quarter but the Maroons answered with a long-range shot by Isabelle Herrera on the next possession.
- The Maroons extended their lead to 33 points before the Tartans cut it to 26 to close the game.
- The Tartans shot 47.8% in the second half but just 39.6% for the game.
For the Tartans
- Sophomore Anisha Chintala led the Tartans with 13 points.
- Freshman Savannah Gibbs scored 11 points for her fourth straight game in double figures.
- Sophomore Catherine Or closed the game with 10 points.
- Gibbs led the team with eight rebounds.
For the Maroons
- North finished with 34 points on 13-of-19 shooting including 6-of-9 from behind the arc.
- Grace Hynes and Herrera each scored 11 points with Hynes earning a double-double with 11 rebounds.
