Tartans Sweep Series With Brandeis, Win 85-61 at Home

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team closed a home weekend with an 85-61 victory against Brandeis University to sweep the season series with the Judges for the third straight time. The Tartans are now 11-9 overall and 2-7 in the University Athletic Association. The Judges are now 6-14 and 1-8.

How it Happened

  • The Judges held an eight-point lead at 20-12 with 1:17 to go in the first quarter before the Tartans scored the final two buckets to cut it to a three-point deficit.
  • The tables turned in the second quarter with the Tartans shooting 44.4% from the floor compared to 27.3% in the first quarter while the Judges made just 13.6% of their attempts in the second compared to 43.8% in the first.
  • Sophomore Anisha Chintala led the Tartans in the second period with 10 points, hitting 4-of-6 attempts from the floor.
  • The Tartans' eight-point halftime lead increased to 24 by the end of the third quarter as the Judges could only find the hoop on three shots while the Tartans hit 10, including three from long range.
  • The Tartans continued their hot shooting in the fourth frame, knocking down another four from distance and 7-of-14 attempts to maintain the double-digit lead.

For the Tartans

  • Four players scored in double figures.
  • The Tartans hit a season-best 11 three-pointers and shot 45.8% from long range.
  • Sophomore Catherine Or led with 18 points and 14 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.
  • Junior Megan Matsko made seven baskets, including two three-pointers, to score 16 points and blocked three shots.
  • Chintala finished with 12 points and six assists.
  • Freshman Ava Black finished with 11 points.

For the Judges

  • Caitlin Gresko hit four long-range shots and finished with 22 points.
  • Emma Reavis tallied 12 points.
